No Black Boxes™

It’s woven into the fibers of Heddle—built so that, wherever possible, a number or a statement arrives with its reasoning. Not just a footnote or a spreadsheet formula, but the relevant inputs, steps, and result, explained in plain English, so you can see what Heddle was given, what it read, and what it did to get there. Today, in Heddle’s finance products, that can mean the daily cost of your commitments, the individual stocks held inside a fund you own, or the source of a dividend. If Heddle can’t explain a figure, it’s built to favor leaving it out rather than showing it without context. As Heddle grows into new territory, this principle travels with it.

This principle also shapes how Heddle behaves, not just what it displays. We design Heddle to ask rather than simply guess: where information is clear, Heddle is built to act on it; where more is needed, Heddle may ask you for it. It’s built to avoid undoing a choice you’ve made without making that change clear to you.

Heddle tells you where its data comes from when that information is available—which institution, which data provider—and, where it can, what their limitations are. And we write this site by the same principle: we aim to make our claims, and the information supporting them, something you can review for yourself.

Where you see this mark, that’s the standard we strive for. It isn’t a legal guarantee that Heddle will always get it right, but it is the standard we build toward. And if you think Heddle has fallen short of it, we want to hear about it.
